No matter where you live there is a good chance that you will run into alumni of Youngstown State University. Our alumni chapters are represented across 14 states.
Fifteen Youngstown State University faculty members attended the Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in Austin, Texas, where educators explored emerging strategies related to teaching, student engagement and artificial intelligence in higher education.
This year’s conference theme, “AI and the Future of Evidence-Based Teaching in Higher Education,” focused on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in college classrooms and evidence-based approaches to student learning. Faculty representatives from across the university participated with support from the Institute for Teaching and Learning and their respective colleges.
The conference provided opportunities for faculty to exchange ideas, discover new teaching strategies and bring innovative approaches back to YSU classrooms to enhance student learning and engagement.
Youngstown State University’s Steel Bridge team earned a second-place overall finish at the 2026 American Institute of Steel Construction Student Steel Bridge Competition National Finals, competing against top engineering programs from across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In addition to its national runner-up finish, the team earned first place in bridge stiffness and second place in structural efficiency, highlighting its excellence in both design and construction. YSU was also recognized as the first university to make 20 appearances at the Steel Bridge National Finals.
The competition challenges students to design, fabricate and construct a scale-model steel bridge while developing technical skills, teamwork and real-world engineering experience. The team’s success reflects the strength of YSU’s engineering program and its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the field.
Billy Green, a part-time faculty member in Youngstown State University’s Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences and Education, has received the 2026 Outstanding Teacher Educator Award from the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators.
The annual award recognizes teacher educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching, mentorship and student support while advancing teacher education through innovation, research and collaboration. Green was selected by the OATE Awards Committee for his dedication and impact in preparing future educators.
His recognition reflects Youngstown State University’s continued commitment to excellence in educator preparation and the faculty members who support future teachers through instruction, mentorship and applied learning.
