The Youngstown State University Center for Nonprofit Leadership, housed in the Williamson College of Business Administration, has announced the 2026 cohort of the Zoldan Yampolsky Family Executive Fellows Program. Established in 2020 by the Zoldan family to honor the legacy of Abe Yampolsky, the endowed program supports the next generation of nonprofit leaders by providing YSU students with high-impact, paid professional experiences.
Designed to mentor students through meaningful, career-related work, the Executive Fellows Program pairs participants with nonprofit organizations where they complete hands-on experience under the guidance of senior leaders. As the program continues to grow, it remains a cornerstone initiative linking YSU students with meaningful opportunities to learn, lead and serve while advancing the work of nonprofit organizations across the region.
Jake Protivnak, distinguished professor and counseling program director in the Department of Psychological Sciences and Counseling at Youngstown State University, recently appeared on the Ohio Counseling Conversations podcast to discuss the role of mentorship in the counseling profession.
During the episode, Protivnak shared insights from his own mentorship journey, discussed how mentorship differs from supervision and academic advising, and highlighted the ways Chi Sigma Iota connects counseling students with mentorship opportunities that support professional and personal growth.
Students in the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University are gaining firsthand insight into the world of federal procurement through immersive, applied learning experiences. This spring, students enrolled in the Fundamentals of Government Contracting course traveled to NASA Glenn Research Center, where they explored how government contracting supports innovation at one of the nation’s leading aerospace research facilities. The visit served as a wrap-up to a 14-week classroom capstone experience, allowing students to see course concepts in action through briefings and tours of several key operations.
The course is a prerequisite for the Ohio Procurement Internship Program, which connects students with Ohio companies engaged in the government marketplace. Many students enrolled in the course will move directly into full-time, paid internships following the semester, gaining practical experience in procurement, compliance and contract management while supporting employers navigating the complexities of federal contracting.
